Frequently asked questions

Everything you need to know about the Alaska Airlines electronic bag tag.
Please proceed to the support page for usage instructions or to contact the help desk.

The electronic bag tag is the paperless, electronic alternative to the paper luggage label you receive at the airport check-in desk. As soon as the electronic bag tag is updated, it works exactly the same as a paper label.

  • Your cell phone is capable of Near Field Communication (NFC) and Bluetooth 4.0, like an iPhone SE (2nd gen) / iPhone 7 or later or a Samsung A51 or later.
  • You are using a recent version of the Alaska Airlines mobile app to check in. (Android version 4.12.0 / iOS version 5.12.0 or newer) .
  • You are traveling on Alaska Airlines and Alaska flights operated by Horizon or SkyWest .

Alaska Airlines, Horizon Air, and SkyWest all accept electronic bag tags. Other BAGTAG supported airlines can be found here.

The Alaska Airlines BAGTAG is made for travel and can withstand baggage handling conditions.

At any drop-off point as you normally would:

1. Self-service drop-off points

2. Pre-tagged drop-off points

3. Regular check-in desks

In any case you save time, because your bag is already checked in. You will save the most time when a self-service or pre-tagged drop-off is provided.

The bag will be weighed at the bag drop. If it turns out to be too heavy, you can follow the airline’s instructions.

With BAGTAG, you can avoid airport check-in lines by dropping off your luggage at self-service baggage drop off points rather than waiting in line for a paper luggage label.

Yes! If a friend or loved one is traveling and their phone, app, and their trip meets all of the conditions for use, then they can use the electronic bag tag.
